Murgheboluc - Birthday Bash

A terrific roll-up to our 14th Birthday Bash at the Murgheboluc Hall was a great indicator of a fun weekend in store. The tables were decorated with helium balloons, the fire was roaring and the food was all ready. What a spread! The variety of delicacies from our members, plus the local Bannockburn support, gave us a huge mouth-watering meal. Of course, the Happy Birthday singing was compulsory – this year we each had our own small candle-lit cake! With lights out and fire a-glow, the scene was fantastic. The weather fined up on Sunday and guess what we had for lunch? Yes...........the yummy left-overs (especially the sweets)! Well done to all Bushwacker cooks – you certainly excelled!!!!

English Bridge

English Bridge was a great spot for the people who came,
it was cold - but a huge firefire was built – could you blame?

The fire as usual was the centre of attention,
its shape and its heat were 2 positives to mention.

We had vegies in foil, camp pots and some jaffles,
to pick whose was whose was sometimes a raffle!

The prize went to Gary with edges-a-black,
did it divulge a sanga that wouldn’t come back?

No, all was a-eaten, until the next meal,
when the fire was questioned deal-or-no-deal?

The rain held off until Sunday morn,
when breakfast was cooked – oh, how forlorn.

But not to worry, no stress was spent,
as we all ate the bush breakfast under the tent.

Thanks go to all approximately 30 in tally,
we’ll see you next time at the Birthday rally!

June 2008

Stringybark Creek

29 people were greeted by beautiful sunshine at Stringybark Creek – mind you, the fog was thick in several spots along the way!

The Friday “tepee” fire was indeed an architecturally-designed masterpiece, a saviour for the dogs and the provider of “hot coals” under seats for people – what luxury!

Saturday was the focus of the weekend, for John and Jan had meticulously created a Ned Kelly Hunt and Trivia exploration. We found boots, gold, horseshoes, bullets (which tasted nice!), Ned’s hut and, of course, the huge Kelly Tree. The beautiful sun allowed us all to explore and learn about what actually happened at Stringybark Creek, where the 3 troopers were shot. “Thanks to our comrades called John and Jan, a mighty woman and a mighty man!”

On Sunday…yet again…we were bathed in sunshine for our outdoor brekkie and raffle…such a hard life! It was a shame to leave!

May 2008

Majors Creek

The early arrivals had the marquee already setup ready for the wet weekend when the majority of Bushwackers arrived on Friday. Thankfully a local CMCA member provided a large quantity of firewood.

We woke Saturday surrounded by lakes due to the large amount of overnight rain. The fire and laughter kept our spirits up, and no-one begrudged the country the rain it sorely needs.

The Sunday Bushwacker breakfast was a welcome start to the day, and there was the usual laughs provided by Amos during the raffle draw.

April 2008

Hunts Bridge

Hunt’s Bridge was the calling, the bush site for our rally.
With members and our visitors – 20 vehicles was the tally.

The fire was a-burning, the tent was all erected.
All that was left to do, was for fun to be directed!

We had 2-up, joe, pontoon and walking.
Electronic Uno, laughing and heaps of talking.

The laughing club got started and their antics caused a look,
when they laughed like a monkey and functioned like a chook!!

The fire was the haven in typical Bushwacker style. T
he cooking of some crumpets brought laughter and a smile.

As John and George competed for the chef-of-chef with force.
We saw some crumpets full of dirt and Ian’s laden with sauce.

Thank’s to all for lots of fun – we were lucky with the weather.
We even managed brekky and raffle, so look forward to our next get-together.

March 2008
Easter Safari

We started at the property of Ken and Jill,
by the Goulburn at Alex., but the wind had a chill.

The walk to the island was a long way around,
especially for some when the correct gate wasn’t found!

By Saturday the weather did get in the groove,
it was time for the gang to be on the move.

The choice was adventure, direct or via wine,
but the way didn’t matter as the roads were all fine.

We heard of some stories of misturns and delay,
but by hook or by crook we all found the right way!

By 6 in the eve, at Powelltown we got,
with a glass in our hands – what a relaxing lot!

Sunday was breakfast with the raffles to boot,
and naturally Amos’ joking caused quite a hoot.

The sun started shining, exercise was good for the souls,
there was walking and talking and some raucous disc bowls!

There was music to sing to well into the night,
it’s a pity the darkness put the words out of sight!

By Monday the vans all did start to deplete,
next time it’s Hunt’s Bridge where the Bushies will meet!

February 2008
Poowong

We camped at Poowong, all 39 of us, there were motorhomes, tents and of course the odd bus.  We saw some old Bushies from a good while back, and new visitors who enjoyed just joining the pack.

The weather was coolish and rainish and damp, but the great big fire added warmth to our camp.  On Friday the highlight was the vocal meetings of dogs, and the collection in John’s “fire truck” of lots of logs.

“Let’s put up the tent” was a mighty decision, but so many helpers meant varying degrees of precision!  Lots of talking and eating and laughter occurred, but the card game folks’ antics meant loud noise could be heard.

On Sunday the raffle followed our bacon and egg brek.

January 2008
Elmore - Australia Day long weekend
Camped at Old Elmore by the Campaspe River, the 19 Bushwackers and 22 visitors enjoyed a terrific weekend.  What a pleasure it was to see some original members arrive.

With true Aussie touch via lamingtons, pies, flags, transfers and not to mention the somewhat large redback spider, we all sat, talked, laughed and told lots of stories – just as well the gum bough decided to fall at 6am, as only a table and chair below had to survive the attack!!

Of course the usual “quiet” card games passed several hours and the nighttime stars created a canopy over the quality of outdoor cuisine being devoured – the prawn I sampled was delicious!!

The dancing dynamos did their exercises and the Sunday brekky was up to its usual standard. So, what can we say but, thanks to all those that were part of the fun!
December 2007
Fentons Creek - AGM

Our Christmas break-up was at Fentons Creek.  Hot conditions prevailed as 26 members and 3 visitors arrived in time for the Annual General Meeting.

The new 2008 committee was elected and then the festivities began.  This year’s fancy dress was the letter W and we saw a Wild One, Warlock, Wishing fairy, Wild man, Wanderers, Whipcracker, Wombat, Wahine woman and we had to “watch” Maree.

Applause was unanimous for Margaret’s natural effort – what a woman!!!  Simon the pelican, (alias Sean) gave out the KK prezzies, followed by the luck for Denise with her prize.  The queue grew quickly for the fabulous feast and of course, the dancing began for some, while others fought off the flies, as they relaxed and chatted outside under the stars.

The usual Bushwacker Sunday BBQ breakfast and raffle occurred and guess who won? You’re right…Denise…again! We all had the last laugh when we told her the winner did the dishes!!!
